The C.R.A.B.s (Coral Reef Advanced Bionics) Team was awarded First Place for their Invention and Research Project at the First Lego League competition at The Fair. For the Trash Trek theme (how to better manage trash and recycling), the students redesigned the juice box so the straw wrapper doesn't fall off and pollute the environment.
The Team consisted of seven 5th graders: Brock Smith, Carson Rivera, Alyssa Nunez, Rowan Gustafson, Jack Hughes, Katie Davis and Mac Cadman.
Team Coaches: Mrs. Trout and Mrs. Cadman
The Team thanks Industrial Engineer and CRE Dad Rob Slazas who helped them think through and improve their design. The team created a skit to present their invention and the problem it's solving. They also spent six months learning to program a robot to tackle missions related to the Trash Trek theme.
The Team also wishes to thank these awesome teachers for all their assistance: Mrs. Trout, Mrs. K. Valdes, Mrs. Lindner, and Mrs. Rosell and our administrators, Mrs. Guerra and Mrs. Pierre-Louis and many thanks to Rainer for always being willing to open the door early so our programmers could get extra practice. Last but not least....A HUGE thank you to volunteer parent Mrs. Cadman whose tireless work and energy made it all happen!
